Like many modellers I was delighted when Dapol brought out the motorised semaphore signals. Sadly in all the years they have been on the market they continue to suffer from an original design defect. The joint between the flat signal base and the cylindrical servo unit relies on a dry joint for its connection. And that dry joint [unless extreme care is taken] just falls apart.
The signal I purchased in the Dapol shop fell apart, and I obtained a replacement from Gaugemaster. It too fell apart. I have returned the second signal to be replaced [Free of Charge - thank you Gaugemaster] and await hopeful success on the third attempt. So why has Dapol not put a bead of glue on the connection between these two fragile parts to secure them? And if I do that do I cause problems on any warranty I might have on the signal?
